Ukrainian municipalities and communities play a crucial role in the country's reconstruction efforts. With ongoing decentralization reform, both the government and donors are starting to recognize the essential contributions of local authorities in these efforts. Their firsthand insight into the growing challenges faced by different regions gives them direct control over the infrastructure that requires repair.
On the other hand, United Nations (UN) agencies, international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and technical assistance bodies funded by bilateral development aid agencies (like USAID and GIZ) have established a strong presence across various parts of Ukraine, implementing numerous infrastructure rehabilitation projects. These entities bring a wealth of experience in working alongside local authorities, enabling a variety of rehabilitation initiatives. Additionally, the interest from these donor organizations in co-financing and collaborating on reconstruction and rehabilitation projects presents new opportunities for Finnish businesses.
Reconstruction needs of Ukrainian municipalities
Civitta, a consulting firm, undertook a study for Business Finland that examined the reconstruction needs of Ukrainian municipalities and identified technical and humanitarian assistance projects providing funding for these needs. In the upcoming webinar, the company's specialists will share the study's key findings.
- the reconstruction needs and capacities of the municipalities, with examples
- UN entities, international NGOs and technical assistance facilities that offer infrastructure rehabilitation activities
- cooperation models between municipalities, companies, and financiers
The report is now in the finalizing process, and those who register to the Talks event will receive the publication just a few days before the webinar.
Doing business in war and conflict zones
The speakers in the event also identify the risks related to countries at war. Ukraine is a unique country in a sense that the reconstruction and international business cooperation have started while the country is still at war. However, there is a volatile business environment in Ukraine, and this needs to be taken into account. This webinar will provide advice for it.
Who should attend?
Businesses aiming to collaborate with Ukrainian municipalities on reconstructing and rehabilitating municipal infrastructure, as well as organisations looking to explore financing options from donor institutions.
